On-Line Devotional Begins
based on United Methodist Social Principles and Creed: a call to
prayer for the General Conference of The United Methodist Church
In recognition of the 2008 General Conference of The United
Methodist Church, a quadrennial gathering of denominational
leaders worldwide, students, alumni, faculty, and staff at
Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) have initiated a
project to prayerfully reflect on the denomination’s principles
that address social and ethical issues. Church members and the
public are invited to subscribe to an electronic “Daily
Devotion” based on The United Methodist Church’s Social
Principles and Social Creed. The devotions will run from Wed.,
Feb. 6 (Ash Wednesday) through Fri., May 2 (the final day of
General Conference). Instructions on how to subscribe to the
daily devotions will be available through the MTSO home page (www.mtso.edu)
beginning Monday, February 4.
Each day's devotion will be based on a specific section of
the Social Principles. The purpose of MTSO’s Daily Devotions is
to raise awareness of the Social Principles and Social Creed, to
serve as a resource for reflection throughout Lent and the
Easter season, for prayerfully supporting the delegates who will
gather for General Conference to make decisions for the entire
denomination. The 2008 General Conference will convene from
April 22 through May 2 in Fort Worth, TX. Located on U.S. Route
23 in Delaware, Methodist Theological School in Ohio is a
graduate seminary of The United Methodist Church preparing
people for service to the church and the world. |

Substitutes Sought for
Occasional Warehouse Custodial Work
We'd like to put together a list of folks to pitch in
occasionally when our assistant custodian, Christie Blue, can't
work her regular shift (vacation time off, etc.). There are a
few Saturdays coming up in March and April when Christie needs
to be out of town overnight with her daughter's volleyball team.
Saturday is a lighter shift: 1-2 hours to spot-clean the
restrooms, do a little vacuuming, and a couple other small tasks
(anytime after 1pm, usually). If you're interested, please
contact Beth Palmer, bpalmer@hilliardumc.org, 560-3808. We'll
train you and pay you. Thanks! |

Salt Shaker Now Available
Electronically
The church's monthly newsletter, the Salt Shaker, is now
available in electronic form online. There will be a
check-off box on the sign-in Cards in the Warehouse if you wants
to receive the Salt Shaker electronically and stop receiving it
by U.S. mail. In this way you can help save the church a
little money, and make it more convenient for you. |

A
Request from the Preschool
We are joining forces with
Cartridge World in a recycling effort and to earn cash for
our Preschool. All we need from you is your empty inkjet and
laser cartridges. Here is how it works: teachers, students,
parents, friends, business leaders and community members drop
off their empty inkjet and laser cartridges at the school.
Periodically, a Cartridge World representative will pick up the
empty cartridges collected at our school. Those cartridges will
be counted and their value determined, anywhere between $1 and
$5 each. A check will be sent each month to our Preschool for
supplies and special programs for the children. The more
cartridges collected, the more money earned. So, start saving
those empty cartridges now.
What a great way to teach our children the importance of
recycling and earn money for the school at the same time. Your
support is very much appreciated!

United Methodist Church
offers new "serve" feature
When we began redesigning
UMC.org, the Web site of the people of The United Methodist
Church, we found that members wanted the site to be a resource
for connecting with the United Methodist community. Because one
of the most effective ways we build community is through
service, United Methodist Communications redeveloped the new
"Serve" feature on UMC.org to
connect volunteers with needs.
Whether they are interested in serving food at a soup kitchen,
or being in a mission on another continent, United Methodists
from around the world turn to
UMC.org to find volunteer opportunities. United Methodist
Communications encourages you to take advantage of this resource
by posting volunteer opportunities available at your own church
or at community nonprofits affiliated with The United Methodist
Church.
The volunteer opportunities currently listed include:
- Restoring a historic church in Michigan
- Caring for AIDS orphans in Kenya
- Assisting with disaster response and recovery in
Louisiana
- Visiting the elderly or homebound in California
just to name a few. Posting an entry is simple. Visit
www.UMC.org and select the
"Serve" button. From there, click on "Submit a Volunteer
Opportunity" and complete the online form. If you have
questions, contact
volunteers@umc.org. |
