Parish Nurse Shirley Goodall
Reducing Volunteer Hours -
Ministry Opportunities Available
HUMC’s volunteer parish nurse, Shirley Goodall, is cutting
back on her volunteer work load. Responding to God’s call on her
life, the last several years Shirley has served HUMC and the
Hilliard community as a full-time parish nurse volunteer. Many,
many people can give testimony through support groups,
education, and caring visits to Shirley’s effectiveness in
ministry. As Shirley tries to reduce the demands on her life,
HUMC will continue to be blessed by Shirley’s ministry as she
plans to continue her support group ministries, Sunday morning
blood pressure checking and sharing of information, and
especially visitation ministry and support of HUMC shut-ins.
Of course, with Shirley “cutting back,” there are several
ministries that will be in need of leadership for their
continuance. Perhaps one of these opportunities resonates with
your heart and is a ministry to which God is calling you. Please
let us know if you have interest and passion for serving or
leading in any of these ministry areas:
Bereavement Ministry: along with pastors/church
office, making contact with families of deceased persons to
inquire of needs; arrange placement/delivery of memorial rose
from church; sympathy card follow-up; assisting with church
funeral arrangements.
Worship video taping ministry: for taping one or more
of Sunday morning worship services in The Sanctuary, and other
special events.
Coordination AED (Artificial Electronic Defibrillation)
and CPR training
Church first-aid kits maintenance: working with
various ministry leaders to make sure first aid supplies in
kitchen, classrooms, and office are kept up to date.
Prayer chain coordinator: be the point-person for
maintaining and coordinating our e-mail prayer chain ministry.
Blood mobile / blood drive coordination
If you are interested in being a part of any of these
ministries, please contact Shirley (sgoodall@hilliardumc.org),
the church office (876-2403), David Ziegel (dziegel@hilliardumc.org),
or mark the Sunday morning “sign in card.”

SERVING BEYOND THE WALLS
OF THE CHURCH

Methodist Women – Church Women United Layette Fund
The UMW will be collecting baby items for the Church Women
United Layette Fund in November and December. Layettes are
presented to single, needy mothers in Franklin County. These
items may be dropped off and placed in the cradles located in
the Social Hall of the Sanctuary Building or in the Front Room
of the Christian Life Center. Items needed are receiving

Help Purchase
Bibles for Arbors Outreach
Arbors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center next door to the church
on Scioto Darby Road is in need. The residents of the home
aren't able to understand the Bibles they have. We have found a
Bible they are able to understand and can purchase a case of 10
Bibles for roughly $40 each (a significant discount from the
usual $60 price) -- the New International Version Life
Application Study Bible in large print. The new Arbors Outreach,
led by mother and son team Debbie and Anthony Coy, is about to
begin, and the Bibles are essential for the Bible study they'll
do. Would you like to help us buy those Bibles for this
important outreach project? If so, please place your donation in
the offering plate and mark it "Bibles for Arbors Outreach."
Thank you!
Health Ministry Collaborative
This new initiative in Columbus, is bringing together various
denominations and Ohio Health with the goal of enabling local

Percy McCray from Cancer Treatment Centers of America-Chicago.
The date is Thursday, August 23rd, from 9am-5pm at St. Alban’s
Episcopal Church in Bexley. The cost is $20 which includes
breakfast and lunch. Call 800-835-5768 to register/receive the

with. This event will provide information on how to reach out,
prevention, tips for effective hospital and home visitation and
more.

Save
Lives From Malaria
Malaria kills more than 1 million kids a year. For $10
we can buy a net, distribute it to a family and educate them on
its use. You can save a family.
Already, groups as diverse as the NBA and the United Methodist
Church have joined the campaign. Now, we're asking you to help
spread the word about Nothing But Nets, and how easy it is to
protect children from malaria with bednets.
You can save a family. Your church, school, or team can save a
village. Together, we can cover Africa with lifesaving bednets.
