Whole Church Challenged to Read
New Testament this Fall!
This fall at Hilliard UMC we’re inviting you (all of
us!) to accept the New Testament
Challenge: We’ll read through the New Testament
together in 63 days! Are you game?
We’ll provide a daily reading plan, and every day
you’ll read a few chapters from the
New Testament (September 19 through November 21).
Then, on Sundays at The
Sanctuary and Warehouse 839, the messages will teach
about big-picture New Testament
themes. New small groups will be forming.
Watch for information So, join the entire Hilliard
UMC family on this spiritual adventure as we explore
the New Testament together
this fall! |
COLLEGE CONNECTION
Are you or someone you know heading off to college this fall?
Hilliard United Methodist Church’s College Connection Committee
would love to hear from you! College Connection is an
outreach group of the church whose mission is to convey to our
college students that they are connected to the HUMC family
through our hearts and prayers. Students are remembered
throughout the year with gifts of love, notes,
birthday cards, and e-mails. If you are interested, please
fill out a College Connection Information Form found on the
Hospitality Table in the Social Hall of the The Sanctuary or in
the front room of Warehouse 839. Completed forms may be
placed in the offering plate or turned into the church office.
For further information please contact Van DePoy at
rdepoy@aol.com .
CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Need a friend to talk with who understands the
difficult life circumstance you're going through? The new
Care & Share brochure is now available, listing folks who are
willing to share about things they've been through (such as
death of a spouse, child, or parent; divorce; cancer treatment;
surgery; and parenting children with special needs, among many
other things). Pick one up in The Sanctuary social hall on the
hospitality hutch, or from the literature rack in Warehouse 839
front room. Questions? Contact Beth Palmer, 614.876.2403,

Servant/Volunteer Church Administrator
Position Being Developed - Interested Persons Encouraged to
Apply
With the “blessing” of the Staff/Pastor-Parish
Relations Committee (Alan Davis, chairperson), Pastor David
Ziegel and The Sanctuary lay leader Duane Phlegar are working to
develop a staff position of church administrator. The primary
purpose and need is better administrative management of
facilities, of facilities planning, and of support staff
oversight. Initially the focus will be on leadership and
coordination with
trustees and the facilities teams in developing phased capital
improvement plans and working with trustees and staff/pastor
parish relations committee on oversight of facility custodial
services and staff. The possible scope of a church
administrator’s job is large. In the future this is likely
to be a paid position. The Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations
Committee is inviting interested persons to contact Pastor David
Ziegel to see what part they might be able to play in the
present and future of this unpaid-servant ministry leadership
position. Because the need is so great, dividing
responsibilities among more than one servant/volunteer
administrator could be very helpful to the ministry of the
church. Contact David Ziegel at
dziegel@hilliardumc.org
or 876-2403.

The Message
Scripture
Luke 18:8-14 (New Revised Standard Version)
He (Jesus) also told this parable to some who
trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded
others with contempt: “Two men went up to the temple to pray,
one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee,
standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I
am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even
like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of
all my income.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would
not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and
saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man
went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all
who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble
themselves will be exalted.”
Experiencing a Life of
Prayer
Prayer, talking and listening with God, is an act of worship,
an act of thanksgiving,
an expression from deep within our souls, and ultimately, a
relationship.
Luke 18:8-18:14
